The final season of Lois & Clark featured two episodes that stood out for their memorable resolutions to the long-running tension between the show's central couple. The third episode, titled "Swear to God, This Time We're Not Kidding," saw Clark Kent (Dean Cain) almost interrupting his nuptials to clarify that this was no "evil genius-cloned-amnesiac fake out," acknowledging the frustration the show's loyal fans had experienced. Nonetheless, viewers were finally rewarded with the long-awaited marriage of Clark and Lois Lane (Teri Hatcher). However, the honeymoon was short-lived, as the writers continued to challenge the couple in the next episode, "Soul Mates." Lois and Clark learned from the return of H.G. Wells (Terri Kiser) that they must first break an ancient curse on their love before they could consummate their marriage. Despite these narrative hurdles, both episodes concluded with blissfully romantic resolutions that more than made up for the previous "nonsense."
Marriage may have reduced the sexual tension in Lois and Clark's relationship, but it did not diminish their considerable appeal as a couple. As professional colleagues and married partners, they worked exceedingly well together, with Cain and Hatcher's palpable chemistry compensating for some of the weaker episodes in the final season.
The season was not without its highlights, however. "Ghosts" featured a notable guest appearance by Drew Carrey as a real-estate scam artist trying to scare Lois and Clark out of their apartment, with Carrey's Show nemesis Kathy Kinney playing an actual ghost. The holiday episode "Twas the Night Before Mxymas" starred Howie Mandel as a mischievous imp who worked a little Groundhog Day magic on Christmas. Additionally, there was a three-episode arc in which Lois was framed for murder, adding a more dramatic note to the season.
Ultimately, the final episode of Lois & Clark concluded the beloved series on an enormously satisfying note, as the relationship that had captivated audiences for so long reached its natural conclusion. Despite the challenges and narrative twists the writers threw at the characters, the enduring appeal of Lois and Clark's love story shone through, making for a fitting end to the series.
